Where is Hollywood Christian School Located?

Do you offer transportation services?

HCS does not offer bus transportation services.

What is the cost for a student to attend HCS?

What curriculum does HCS use?

HCS uses a wide variety of curriculum materials.  The focus of using Christian-based textbooks is a driving force behind the selection of textbooks and course offerings.  However, secular textbooks are utilized when necessary.  The philosophy of HCS is that "the teacher is the living curriculum."  Simply stated, each teacher is hired with the full understanding that as Christian teachers they are expected to implement Biblically-based principles and views throughout their course of instruction.

HCS also offers curriculum guides for grades K-6 and 7-12.  These guides are used to define and describe in detail what is taught and expected in each individual grade (K5-6) and each individual subject area (7-12).

What time does the school day begin and end?

School begins at 7:45 for grades 7-12 and 8:05 for K4-6th.  PreK through 6th grade are dismissed at 2:30 P.M. and 7th through 12th grade are dismissed at 2:55 P.M.

Is HCS accredited?

 Hollywood Christian School is accredited by the Florida Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (FACCS) and the American Association of Christian Schools (AACS).  HCS is also in the process of obtaining accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and School (SACS) and by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). 

Does HCS have Bible classes and chapel?

Bible is an integral part of the curriculum at HCS and is a required subject taught daily in every grade.  Students assemble for chapel on a bi-weekly basis in grades K4-12th .

Are students who graduate from HCS prepared for college?

Yes.   The senior class has an overall class average SAT score of 950.  Current THCA seniors meet college requirements and have been accepted at many colleges and universities including:   The University of Notre Dame, Wheaton College, University of Florida, Florida Gulf Coast, Florida State University, Palm Beach Atlantic, Atlanta Christian College, Florida International University, Liberty University, Campbell University, Lafayette University, University of Central Florida, Florida State University, Samford University, Florida Atlantic University, to name a few.

What advanced courses and academic clubs are available to students in high school?

HCS offers advanced placement courses in each of the four major academic areas.  The courses are offered either on campus or through The Virtual School of Broward County.  Courses offered are:  AP Biology, AP English Language, AP US History, AP English Literature, and AP Calculus.  In addition to these courses, honors courses are offered to students in grades 9-12th in science, math, and English.  Academically accelerated students may benefit by membership in the National Honor Society.

What does HCS offer in fine arts? 

Prek-6th students have art and music on a regular basis throughout the school year.  Courses in drama, art, and choir are offered to 9-12th grade students.  Elementary and high school students also participate in competitions as well as dramatic presentations.

Does HCS have standardized testing for students?

Students in grades K-11th are tested each spring using the Stanford Achievement Test.  In preparation for college admissions testing, high school students are required to take the PLAN and the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.  Additional assessments are offered related to career interests. 

Are students required to wear uniforms?

Yes.  Our uniforms are from Sunshine Uniform Company.  For further details please contact the school office at 954-966-4375 or the student/parent handbook.

Does HCS offer an after school care program?

Yes.  After school care hours are 3:00-6:00 P.M. Refer to extended care for more information.

Explain your lunch program.

Lunches are available at cost of approximately $4.00 per day.  The lunches are catered and served a la carte, and menus include:  deli sandwiches, chicken strips, hamburgers, fries and hotdogs, soups, chicken wraps, salads, lasagna, etc.

How are parents encouraged to be involved at HCS?

There are many opportunities for parents to be active and participate in at HCS such as Parent Teacher Fellowship, Athletic Booster Club, and a Mom's In Touch weekly prayer group.

Is HCS sponsored by a church or denomination?

HCS is sponsored by Hollywood Community Church. 

What are the steps to enroll a child at HCS?

To apply for enrollment, an Application for Admission form must be submitted with a registration fee per family (this fee is non-refundable).

An admissions test is required for all students. 

A Pastoral Reference form is required for the family applying for enrollment.

A Teacher and Guidance Office Reference form is Required. 

Parents will be interviewed by two administrative team members and asked to share their reasons for seeking entrance into HCS as well as to affirm agreement with the school's student handbook and doctrinal statement.

Parents are required to attend a New Parent Orientation Meeting as the final step (prior to the beginning of school in August).
